Two Things That I Have Learned This Week

I know Memorial weekend has passed ( May 28,2018) but I have this sense of responsibility to those that lost their lives for our young country. I love this country that I was born into but have never paid the ultimate price for that love.

The families that lost their dear loved one for the pursuit of our happiness and freedom in America leaves me with a lump in my throat and an ache in my heart.

I am so thankful for their sacrifice that it gets me moving every day. My husband wears a memorial band bearing the loved ones that lost their lives in 2009 fighting alongside him. It is a daily reminder and every year we remember them on the day they passed that we should never forget them and in honorable tribute, live the American dream.

It is with this sense of responsibility to live a full life because they gave up theirs, that I pull my weak body out of slumber to work, to laugh, to rest, to give, and to receive.

Rest in peace brothers of war, you are not forgotten.

On a lighter note, the other thing I learned to do is that it is TIME to just DO. An action is necessary for improvement. I know nothing new, but it is when you actually stop reading about it, listening about it, researching it, dreaming of it,  just do IT.

You were made to win, not lose. Get up and do it. Day after day, fighting for what you believe in. Believe in yourself then conquer your fears.

I used to despise the term no excuses. I used to sit back and say, ” yeah it is because you are healthier, wealthier, smarter, prettier etc. Petty stuff that I let the negative wash away the abilities that I did have. Work with the abilities that you do have. The NO EXCUSES are getting rid of your very own I can’t. If you truly cannot then try to adapt it..adaptation doesn’t work that way? Go ahead and adapt that adaption. Go for it, I dare you.  It is time…do it or die. Not physically of course, but you will be walking dead. No pun intended.

Here is some weekend motivation for you. No need to wait until Monday, the time is now.

Two Random Tips For You

Find happiness in the simple things. Then go use that happiness to create something beautiful. Don’t let life’s circumstances block your creative flow.

Take care of your skin. The largest organ of our body is one of the least taken care of. Drink lots of water to hydrate it. Buy some great moisturizer, I like vitamin e oil and/or Cetaphil cream in a jar. It leaves your body feeling silky without drying it out.

Make some sugar scrub to assist in sloughing off the old skin and give it some love.

I personally use this easy recipe…not sure if I made it up, or if I read it somewhere in a fashion magazine years ago.

Ingredients:

1 cup of sugar ( brown or regular, organic or not, your choice)

3 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive oil

Add a little water to make it smooth. Adjust the sugar ratio if it gets too runny.

Slather and scrub in the shower, rinse and feel the oil soften the skin. 🙂

You can add essential oils, but if you have sensitive skin the least amount of ingredients is best. But if you want to experiment, there is nothing wrong with that!

A Mini Challenge

Join the summer reading program at your local library. It is filled with great prizes. Nothing says thank you for reading like a prize and you get smarter…or travel in your mind which is smart too!

A Thoughtful Question

My favorite summer memories were when I was a kid we always had bbq’s every month. There would be so many kids and adults that the only place left to sit was the grass. The laughter, the sweet tea, the bbq smell in the air, the friendships made and the swapping of old stories told still leave me warm and fuzzy.

People would arrive mid-afternoon and leave super late at night meaning we all shared marshmallows on a twig. Sigh…each season I have fond memories that overtake me. I’m a weird one, I don’t have a favorite season…I love them all.

How about you, do you have a favorite season? I can’t wait to read about your favorite summer stories. Please share in the comments below!

  1. So many future goals for me here right in this weekly journal! I loved reading about your summer memories! Summer is definitely my favorite season…the short sleeve/sleeveless tops come out of storage, no more need for coats and layering and sweaters, time for swimming at the pool, soaking in the sun, wading in the lake, grilling hot dogs…some of my favorite things about summer!
